Welcome to Chugoku!!!
The Chugoku region is a geographical area located in the western part of Japan’s main island of Honshu. It is bordered by the Sea of Japan to the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south. The name “Chugoku” translates to “central country,” although its name in Japanese doesn’t correspond to its central position in Japan; instead, it’s historically named so due to its location relative to the ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara.
Key cities in the Chugoku region include Hiroshima, known for its historical significance as the site of the atomic bombing during World War II and its subsequent peace efforts; Okayama, famous for its traditional Japanese garden, Korakuen; Yamaguchi, historically known as the capital of the Choshu Domain and a center of samurai culture; Tottori, home to the Tottori Sand Dunes, a popular natural attraction; and Shimane, known for its rich folklore and historical sites, including Izumo Taisha, one of Japan’s oldest and most important Shinto shrines.
The Chugoku region is characterized by its diverse landscapes, including coastal areas, mountains, and rural countryside. It has a rich cultural heritage and is known for traditional crafts such as pottery, lacquerware.
