Visit Hiraizumi in Iwate, Japan – UNESCO World Heritage

Where is it?

Hiraizumi is located in Iwate Prefecture, in the Tohoku region of Honshu, Japan’s main island. Specifically, Hiraizumi is found in the southern part of Iwate Prefecture, approximately 115 kilometers (71 miles) north of Sendai, the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture.

It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site on June 25, 2011. This recognition was given to Hiraizumi under the title “Historic Monuments and Sites of Hiraizumi”.
