HaiDiLao – Chinese Hot Pot Restaurant in Japan

HaiDiLao is a popular hot pot restaurant chain in China and has since expanded to numerous locations worldwide, including Japan. The restaurant is known for its delicious hot pot broths, high-quality ingredients, and attentive service.

We can choose from various hot pot broths, typically cooked at the table, along with a selection of meats, vegetables, and other ingredients to add to the pot. The restaurant also offers a variety of dipping sauces and side dishes to complement the hot pot.

One of the unique aspects of dining at HaiDiLao is the interactive experience. That means we get to cook their food and can customize the hot pot to their liking. Additionally, the staff at HaiDiLao are known for their excellent service, with a focus on making sure diners have an enjoyable and comfortable experience.

There were 14 HaiDiLao branches in Japan, located in the following cities:

  • Tokyo (6 locations)
  • Osaka (4 locations)
  • Kanagawa (1 location)
  • Chiba (1 location)
  • Aichi (1 location)
  • Fukuoka (1 location)

Last time, we had a chance to go to one branch in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward, home to the Kabukicho entertainment district. The location is easily accessible from the Kabukicho area, as it’s just a short walk from the Seibu-Shinjuku or Shin-Okubo stations.

Here are some pros and cons of dining at HaiDiLao in Shinjuku that we think will help:

Pros:

  • ✅ Delicious food: High-quality ingredients and tasty hot pot broths, same as other locations
  • ✅ Interactive experience: We can cook our own food and choose from various dipping sauces.
  • ✅ Good service: Staff often go out of their way to ensure we are happy and comfortable.

Cons:

  • 💭 Crowded: It can be quite busy, especially during peak dining hours, leading to long wait times and a crowded dining experience. So it’s a good idea to make a reservation in advance if possible.
  • 💭 Pricey: While the food at Haidilao is generally of high quality, it can also be quite expensive, which may not be accessible to all budgets.
