Henn-na Hotel, also known as the “Strange Hotel” in English, is a unique hotel in Japan. What makes this hotel special is that it is almost entirely staffed by robots, making it a one-of-a-kind experience for guests.

Robot staff: As we mentioned earlier, almost staffs are robots, from the reception desk to the porter service. Significantly, different types of robots handle other tasks, such as a humanoid robot that serves as a receptionist and check-in agent, a porter robot that carries guests’ luggage to their rooms, and a cleaning robot that tidies up the rooms after guests are checked out.
Futuristic design: The hotel’s design is sleek and modern, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. It gives the hotel a futuristic feel that fits well with the robot theme.
Energy-efficient technology: This hotel is designed to be energy-efficient, with features like motion-sensor lighting and air conditioning that adjust automatically when guests enter or leave the room. This reduces energy consumption and adds to the hotel’s futuristic vibe.
Unique room options: The hotel offers a variety of room options, including some that are themed around popular Japanese characters like Hello Kitty and Godzilla. These rooms are decorated in a fun and playful style that adds to the hotel’s overall charm.
Henn-na Hotel currently has multiple branches throughout Japan; there are also branches in South Korea and the United States. Each location has its unique features and amenities. Still, all of them share the Henn-na brand and the concept of being staffed by robots, providing guests with a fantastic experience and reducing labor costs for the hotel.
Henn na Hotel Tokyo Akasaka
Recently, we stayed at one of its branches, located in Akasaka, Tokyo, for one night. At first, it was a bit surreal checking in with a robot, but it was also exciting to interact with them and see how it worked. The room we got was a standard semi-double for 13,365 yen (~98 USD). We had a great stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique hotel experience in Tokyo.
